It’s a good idea, however, to repeat the above steps again even if you’ve just completed a registry clean-up with CCleaner. It’s now safe to close CCleaner or perform some other system cleaning task with the program. It should be clear that while CCleaner is completely free, it’s only free for home users. Business versions of CCleaner are required if you plan to use the program in anything but a home/personal scenario. For one, we’ve never had CCleaner cause a problem in the Windows Registry, which some less-well-done registry repair tools do on a regular basis.

Prefer Performance Over Style

One of the main reasons I was drawn to CCleaner in 2006 was because of privacy. Back then, it was difficult to remove certain files such as index.dat, which was used by Internet Explorer. In contrast, my Windows program tends to group files in more generic categories. However, this utility is produced by the same folks who make the operating system, so I have a high degree of trust.

I also appreciate the ability to choose individual settings and tools. I like the way it allows me to easily access internet history. Each element is explained clearly and you can deselect anything you don’t want to be cleaned up so you don’t accidentally remove anything that you might later need. For example, CCleaner can erase usernames and passwords saved by your web browser, but only if you explicitly tell it to.

For example, if I select Microsoft Edge and Cookies, I can see which cookies will be deleted by right-clicking. I’ve seen too many registry cleaners and system optimizers which make it too easy for the user to get into trouble. Today, more people are questioning what gets left behind by their browser. These remnants vary based on which web browser or application you use, but often include cookies, temp files, typed web addresses, history and so on.

I used it all the time on Windows and look forward to it’s continued development on the Mac platform. I have thousand of “unused" files, even thousands of iTunes tracks I’ve never listened to or haven’t for a long time. According to the description CCleaner is going to get rid of them too (it doesn’t). I don’t want it to remove “unused” files from my system – I want it to remove unnecessary and unwanted files from my system. So I MANUALLY removed 321 diagnostic reports and a bunch of CrashReporter files. A month ago I reported that none of the logs in /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports are being removed, and none of the files in /Library/Logs/CrashReporter are either.

I have to say that C Cleaner has really helped and the more advanced version is working out really well. It keeps me updated by removing what it needs to automatically and gives me the space back needed with being older and can use up lots of space fast! Does downloadsdb a great job of keeping my hard drives clean and especially like the registry cleaner. I like way it easily cleans my internet history and recycle bin.

For example, the program could include tooltips or pop-ups so when the user hovers over an item such as Type Libraries, they would have a better idea of the item. CCleaner Registry PanelThe thing about registry tools is they tend to find problems that really aren’t problems. I’ve seen people get overzealous and attack these errors as some people try for “inbox zero”.
